Courses & Laboratory Instruction

Teaching spans both sides of the Atlantic — a societal-impact physics course for undergraduates at Stony Brook University, and graduate-level experimental instruction in gamma-ray spectroscopy at CEA Saclay for the NPAC Master's program (Université Paris-Saclay).

Department of Physics and Astronomy

PHY 231
Physics for Future Presidents
Undergraduate lecture course · 2022 – 2026
4 Fall semesters

A study of the key physics ideas a newly-inaugurated President — of a country or a company — needs to know to make informed decisions on issues including energy, national security, and space exploration. The course covers radioactivity and nuclear power, non-proliferation, terrorism, and climate change, connecting fundamental physics to policy and public decision-making.

02 CEA Saclay — NPAC Master's Program

Université Paris-Saclay, in co-accreditation with Sorbonne Université — Noyaux, Particules, Astroparticules, Cosmologie (NPAC), M2.

NPAC — M2
Laboratory Course in Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy
Graduate (Master's) level · Instructor
Fall 2018 – Fall 2019

Hands-on instruction in gamma-ray spectroscopy using High-Purity Germanium (HPGe) and Bismuth Germanate (BGO) scintillation detectors, for the identification of radioactive isotopes. Part of NPAC's mandatory Detector Physics component, which pairs core nuclear/particle/astroparticle physics coursework with hands-on instrumentation training — reflecting the program's emphasis on direct connection to research, ahead of students' three-month laboratory thesis internship.
